The Ogdensburg Free Academy boys varsity lacrosse team made history in 2025, completing a perfect 16-0 regular season, winning its first league title since the program's inception in 2009, capturing the NYSPHSAA Class D Regional Championship, and advancing to the state semifinals.
This run marks a milestone not only for OFA but also for Section X, which has seen few teams reach this level of postseason success.
“This season was one to be remembered,” said head coach Andrew Roddy. “The leadership from our seniors and the grit and determination from every player were incredible. They shattered records, reached milestones, and proved they could compete with the best teams in the state.”
“Everyone bought in from day one and wanted to be there,” said senior Nate Irvine. “We were willing to work and trust in each other’s abilities on the field. We were a team, not just individual players.”
Senior Leadership and Record-Breaking Performances
The team’s eight seniors, Tegan Frederick, Nate Irvine, Lorenzo Rand, Austin Thornhill, Mikael Adner, Tanner Fonda, Ty Jacobs, and Bryan Doser, played a pivotal role in the program’s growth and success.
Tegan Frederick, an attacker, broke multiple school records with 30 career points, 130 single-season points, and 85 single-season goals. He surpassed his own previous record, set in 2023, of 96 points in a season. The previous record-holder was Isacc Testani, who tallied 95 points in 2019.
“Our entire team had a high competitive level and intensity in games and practices,” said Frederick. “We’ve been playing together since we were young, so we know each other’s capabilities.”
Junior attacker Aidan O’Neil also made history, setting a new single-season record of 64 assists, finishing the season with 123 points. Testani also previously held the assist record with 50.
Postseason Highlights
OFA’s historic season concluded with a 19-1 overall record, following a 17-10 loss to Penn Yan (Section V) in the NYSPHSAA Class D semifinals on June 11 at SUNY Cortland’s Grady Field.
“After the final whistle, I watched every player hug and support one another,” said Roddy. “They’ve built lifelong friendships and played for each other. That’s what sports are all about.”
The Blue Devils earned the NYSPHSAA Class D Regional Championship with a 14-13 win over Schuylerville (Section II) on June 7 at Amsterdam Middle School.
“Our seniors led with North Country grit,” Roddy said. “We weren’t the flashiest or fastest, but we were tough, resilient, and believed in each other.”
The team completed its undefeated regular season with a 12-9 win over Massena on May 21. Goalie Jackson Thornhill recorded 15 saves, anchoring a defense that forced turnovers and created transition opportunities. Additional game highlights included:
Frederick scored six goals, bringing his season point total to 108 at the time.
O’Neil recorded seven assists and three goals, breaking the single-season assist record.
Irvine and Jacobs each added a goal and an assist.
Long-stick midfielder Thornhill scored and played a key role in transition offense.
On June 4, OFA claimed its second consecutive Section X Class D title with a 7-5 victory over Canton at SUNY Potsdam.
