Dear Ogdensburg families,

Because we are the Ogdensburg City School District, Proposition 1 will have a big impact on us. This statewide referendum is coming up for a vote on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Proposition 1 will NOT raise taxes.

If voters approve this legislation, it will help Ogdensburg and other Small City School Districts across the state manage our finances in the same way that Central School Districts now manage theirs.

Here is how Proposition 1 will read on the November 7 ballot:

Proposal Number One—Statewide Ballot Constitutional Amendment on Repeal of Debt Ceiling for  Small City School Districts The proposed amendment to Article 8, section 4 of the Constitution removes the  special constitutional debt limitation now placed on small city school districts, so they will be treated the same as  all other school districts. Shall the proposed amendment be approved?

Passage of this proposal will allow Ogdensburg and other Small City School Districts to operate under the same funding and debt structure as all other non-city school districts in New York State. Currently, small city districts are limited to a 5% debt limit rather than the 10% limit under which all other non-city school districts now operate.

PROPOSITION 1 WILL NOT RAISE TAXES. IT WILL STRENGTHEN THIS DISTRICT.

Thank you for your support.
