Students waving American flags during veterans day ceremony

John F. Kennedy Elementary School hosted its annual Veterans Day ceremony Friday, Nov. 7 to honor local service members. The event began at 9 a.m. in the cafetorium, following a welcome reception for veterans at 8:30 a.m.

Students led the program, which included a procession by grade level, patriotic songs, and recognition of each veteran in attendance. Military service songs were played as branch flags were displayed, and students presented gifts to the veterans they invited.

Highlights of the ceremony included the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem, musical performances consisting of Yankee Doodle (UPK-2), My Country ‘Tis of Thee (grades 3-6) and This Land Is Your Land and God Bless the USA (UPK-6), a white table presentation by third-grade students and a performance of “Taps.”

The program concluded with closing remarks and a reception in the primary gymnasium, where veterans and their families enjoyed refreshments and photo opportunities.
