Budget & Finance

The school budget is the biggest investment the community collectively makes with its tax dollars. District leaders work to make the most effective use of resources to benefit students, to develop and manage the budget in a responsible and transparent manner, and to be accountable to taxpayers.

Each spring the Board of Education adopts a budget for the coming school year for a community vote. New York State has designated the third Tuesday in May as the date for school budget votes.

Operating Budget

Total Budget: $56,092,979
Tax Levy Increase: 2.49%
Spending Increase: 1.51%

The approved $56,092,979 budget represents a $831,774, or 1.51% increase over the current budget and a 2.49% increase in the tax levy, which is the equivalent of the district’s tax rate 20 years ago in the 2005-2006 school year.

Voters approved a Library Referendum Proposition that will increase the levy and collect an annual tax, year after year, separate and apart from the annual school district budget, an increase of $123,692, in addition to the current appropriation of $350,000, for a new total of $473,692.

“We are grateful for the continued support from our community. This budget accounts for fiscal challenges facing the district, and will allow for the continuation of high quality education programs for the children of Ogdensburg.”

– Kevin Kendall, Ogdensburg City School Superintendent

Budget Development Process

Under New York law, the school budget vote and election occurs on the third Tuesday in May, unless a district files a request with the commissioner of education to move the date to the second Tuesday in May based upon a conflict with a religious observance. School district Boards of Education work to develop a budget throughout the school year.
