Billy Hosmer, local OFA alumnus, invested in Ogdensburg’s future

Billy Hosmer, a 1997 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy, has traveled across the country, but his deep connection to Ogdensburg and commitment to community development brought him back home to raise a family and invest in the city’s future.
After earning a degree in business administration with a concentration in information systems from the University of Vermont, Hosmer spent nearly a decade living and working in Vermont before returning to Ogdensburg. Upon his return, he met his wife Maureen, also an OFA graduate, and together they are raising four children who attend Madill Elementary school, the same school Hosmer attended as a child.
The Hosmer’s are business owners in the city, operating Hosmer’s Marina, JJ’s on the River and Sweet Emilie’s Coffee & Ice Cream. They have plans on expanding their property to continue contributing to the development of the city.
Beyond his businesses, Hosmer is involved with youth development. He oversees the Little League baseball programs from t-ball through sixth grade and coaches third- and fourth-grade basketball. He previously served on the Ogdensburg city council and remains active with the chamber of commerce, its executive board and the Kiwanis Club.
Hosmer and his team also prioritize giving back. Each year, they participate in a team-building cleanup along the city’s recreation trails. In the spring, he invites fourth-grade students from Madill and JFK elementary schools to fish at the marina, and in the summer, he hosts a fishing outing for youth from the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club.
During the city’s annual Seaway Festival in July, Hosmer hosts class reunions at his establishment, reconnecting with fellow alumni and the community that shaped who he is today.
“My wife and I love Ogdensburg,” said Hosmer. “We want to see Ogdensburg as a place that can attract and retain people. We put all of our efforts into making it a better community and do things for the kids. If the kids have a great experience then they’ll want to be here.”
