Summer Programs
Elementary Summer School and Readiness Program
Ogdensburg City School District offers an Elementary Summer School and Readiness Program for our elementary school students. The program works on overall readiness, as well as pre-reading and writing skills. Additionally, there is a great deal of structured play to build social skills and encourage appropriate behavior toward others. The program aims to employ several theme-based projects and hands-on activities to make learning fun and exciting for our students.
Together, we can work to promote and develop our students as:
- Complex Thinkers
- Productive Workers
- Effective Communicators
The Elementary Summer School and Readiness Program is offered at no charge to resident students.
The program offers the following sections:
- Pre-Kindergarten – Students must have attended a pre-school program during the previous school year.
- Post-Kindergarten to 6th Grade – This will include 45 minutes of reading, 45 minutes of mathematics, 30 minutes of library twice a week, and 30 minutes of enrichment activities.
Note: Each of the sections is staffed with a teacher and a teaching assistant.
Watch for registration announcements during the spring. Building principals can also answer your questions about the Summer School Readiness Program.
OFA Summer School
Prepare for academic success this summer with the High School Summer School Program. Designed for students in Grades 9-12, this program provides valuable opportunities for both credit recovery in courses previously taken and advanced credit in subjects such as Economics, Participation in Government, and Health.
Watch for OFA Summer School announcements and information in the spring.
Attendance
Due to the length of summer school and the concentration of planned instruction, it is difficult to catch up on work due to absences and/or non-participation. Therefore, attendance is critical for student success. A student may only miss one class. Any additional absences beyond the one day will result in the student being exited from the course. Each classroom teacher will maintain an attendance log in addition to a daily participation log.
Course Credit
The successful completion of a course will be determined by having a passing average at the end of summer school. A final examination will be given in all courses. Final grades will be sent electronically to home school districts and to students via mail.
Grading
The final average earned by a student during the regular school year will be combined with the summer grades as follows:
Credit Recovery
20% – 2024-25 School Year
40% – Summer School Average
20% – Participation
20% – Final Exam
Transportation
Transportation will only be provided to students in the Ogdensburg City School District. Students from outside of the district should contact their home school districts concerning transportation.
