Latin American Studies Travels to Canada
On April 16, 2015 the students in Mr. Snyder's Latin American Studies attended a briefing from the Peruvian Embassy in Ottawa, Ontario as part of their participation in the annual Model Organization of American States Conference that is held at SUNY Plattsburgh in early June. The students research a different country in Latin America each year and represent that nation at the conference. In order to gain first hand knowledge for their research, a trip is arranged for the students to travel to Ottawa, Ontario and visit the embassy of the nation they are representing. Students use this research to develop resolutions on varying topics under discussion by the actual Organization of American States. áStudents may take Latin American Studies in lieu of Participation in Government for graduation credit. They may also receive college credit through SUNY Plattsburgh. áPictured below are LAS-110 students at the conclusion of their briefing at the Peruvian Embassy in Ottawa, Ontario with Peruvian Diplomat, Carla Cueva, and the students also posing outside the Peruvian Embassy.

On March 19, 2015áOFAásenior class members heard a presentation by the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections personnel: Seth Belt, Deputy Democratic Commissioner; Gordon Ward, Democratic Data Management Technician; and NicoleáMaxner - Republican Deputy Commissioner. This presentation was the culmination of our spring voter registration drive and provided the students with an understanding of how to utilize theáscannableávoting machines. áThe presenters were able to discuss their role in elections with the students as well as field questions and explain the process of absentee balloting.
