6th Grade Activities

    Dear Students,
In the fall of sixth grade you will work on a world geography unit.
You will be challenged to learn the capitals and recognize the flags
    of many countries.
Finally, you will be asked to create a travel brochure for a foreign     country.(You will be provided with the necessary photos)

You will also learn a great deal about the Stock Market.
Each student will invest $500,000.00 in December and keeps
track of their stocks until the end of April at a web site called
    Virtual Stock Exchange.

You will also learn a new kind of higher level thinking called
Matrix Logic in the spring. Students are encouraged to make their
own logic problems and test them out on their friends and their     teacher. The sixth grade P.L.U.S. students enjoy challenging Mrs.
Ridger's 7th Grade Enrichment group to Mancala Tournaments     throughout the year. You can also play mancala online.

Finally, the sixth grade P.L.U.S. students enter two contests using
the computer each spring. One is called Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl.
You will compete with each other. Then the top score is reported.
A great site to visit to test your skills with the Knowledge Master
    is at The Great AUK.

You will also participate in the Journey North. Over several
months you are sent Mystery City Clues and working in teams,
you have to send your final guesses to Journey North.
