Ogdensburg City School District

Food Services Department

                                     About our Food Service Department

Our Food Service program operates independently.  It does not receive any “local” tax dollars from the Ogdensburg City School District’s general fund in the form of a fund transfer or subsidy.   Ala-Carte sales help to sustain the financial integrity of the Food Service Program.

All menu items and ala-carte food items meet current USDA and NYSE nutrition guidelines.

The Food Service Director works with site base committees as well as Parent/Teacher/Student Associations to continuously develop and improve the OCSD Food Service Programs.

Menu development evolves from input directly from these committees as well as from phone calls from parents, speaking with students during their lunch time, student surveys and meeting with Mrs. Jeanault’s Health Class students twice a year.

Our Food Service Director is very receptive to new and innovative ideas for the Food Service Programs while attempting to maintain the financial integrity of the program as well as conforming to all Federal and State mandated guidelines.  Click here to view mandated breakfast and lunch guidelines

Our Food Service Director meets with parents, health care professionals and faculty to address individual student special dietary needs and develop individual menu alterations to accommodate those special needs.

The Food Service Staff  receive training, updated Food Service information and alerts on a continuous basis as it is warranted.   Staff Development days provide training to our Food Service staff as well as F.S. Staff from other School District and BOCES as a shared service with those Districts.   The Food Service Director attends several Food Service conferences, seminars and training each year to stay on top of current nutrition issues and developments.

There is a District “Wellness Policy” in place and our Food Service Department has developed and implemented a HACCP system.

The Food Service Program has undergone major developments and innovative changes over the past 10 years with focus on student health, childhood obesity, childhood disease development, student eating disorders, nutritional content, food preparation methods and food safety standards.
