Located in room 105, across from the auditorium entrance at the Ogdensburg Free Academy, the Gallery opened in September 2003 with an exhibit of student work submitted from grades 7-12. The Gallery is named after former Audio Visual Director and Librarian, James F. Montpelier who served the Ogdensburg City School District from 1978 to 2003. Jim was born June 1, 1954 in Ogdensburg and attended local schools, graduating from O.F.A. in 1972. He attended Canton A.T.C. and S.U.N.Y. Oswego, and received his Master's Degree from S.U.N.Y. Potsdam. He married Amy Kelly of Govuerneur, New York on July 12, 1986. Jim and Amy were blessed with a daughter, Rachel, and son. Seth, both attending school in Ogdensburg. His sister, Ann and her family as well as his mother, Elizabeth, continue to reside in Ogdensburg. Mr. Montpelier was very active in this community by giving his expertise and assistance to the Ogdensburg Command Performance, Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club, Seaway Festival Parade, school district concerts and events. In 1993/1994 he was given the "Frankie Award" by Ogdensburg Command Performance. Jim will always be remembered for his dedication to this school district as well as a passionate supporter of student achievement and learning. James F. Montpelier was a true role model whether you knew him as a husband, father, brother, teacher or a friend. His memory will continue to serve all who aspire to be a better person.
