Directions on how to recover a message from your Spam Quarantine:

Training sessions are being planned for the week after Thanksgiving

If you have questions or need personal assistance at any time please feel free to contact any district technician, we are happy to help.

Pictured below is a typical Daily Spam Report email message.

In this case the spam report says there are 4 quarantined messages and it has 1 new email

message, it quarantined since the last Daily Spam Report. You may have many, many more. That is fine.

This is an email I wanted in my regular email mailbox so I will click on the link that says

“Click here to manage your quarantine”.

You will get a login screen.

PLEASE Note: it asks for your entire email address as your username so you must put in your entire

email address: so I would enter lremington@ogdensburgk12.org and then your regular email password

in the password box.

It will then bring up a new window … click on the Spam tab (this picture has only 3 some of you

may have many, many more. That is fine.

The first message was not supposed to be quarantined. So I click on the message I want (it will highlight in blue)

then  I have 6 Action Icons I can choose from.

The Release Button – this “releases” the highlighted email message only just this once

Delivers that message to your regular email mailbox it will appear there in brief minute or two

The Allow Button  – this tells the Spam filter to always allow the highlighted message … caution!

Choosing this option will ask you to define if you want to allow messages from that

exact email address or anyone at that domain name

For example : if I have a message in my spam quarantine box that is from jsmoe@thecompany.com

And I choose allow it will pop up 2 boxes showing me jsmoe@thecompany.com

                                                                        And thecompany.com

If I choose jsmoe@thecompany.com then only his emails will be “allowed” through the spam box where

As an email from bsmith@thecompany.com would still be quarantined but if I choose to select the

company.com then anyone with an email address that ended in “thecompany.com” would be “allowed”.

This is entirely your personal choice, and if you trust their company to be a reputable organization.

The Block Button - works in the exact same way as the allow button but it will actually block the email from

even showing in your quarantine, it will launch these messages into the black hole of  cyberspace. J

It will again ask you the same question as in the allow example if you want to block emails from that

user or that company entirely. Personally I would not put a lot of energy or time into adjusting the block list

if it is already in the spam quarantine (here), the spam filter already caught it, and it will be expunged in 28 days.

The Report Button - sends an email message that you type along with the email you highlighted to lremington@ogdensburgk12.org.

This is meant for troubleshooting or other odd circumstances, like you had allowed it but it is still getting caught or

Perhaps some company sent something that you wanted to alert me to that shouldn’t be blocked for anyone at Ogdensburg.

The Delete Button – does just that it deletes the highlighted message from your quarantine, you may select multiple messages with the shift

or control keys as in most other programs. Again personally I wouldn’t spend time in my day to delete messages

from my spam quarantine, they will be expunged after 28 days anyway, why not let the computer do that work for you.

The View Button – if you are not sure if the message is spam or not you may preview the message here by choosing view, please be patient

With the preview it may take a minute for it to open the message, the spam filter is very busy, after you are done reviewing

The message simply click on the spam tab again to exit view mode.

In this example I stated my 1st message was not a spam message and I wanted it in my regular mailbox, hence I will choose “allow” and then

because I know and trust this company I will select the company’s name option.

The Spam filter keeps a separate list of quarantined messages that were caught in the Content tab. You may want to review this as well. These

are messages that included “bad” words in the subject or message body.

The Spam filter also captures viruses if you have something under that tab please leave it there to be expunged. The Files tab is not in use at this time.

There are two other important tabs: The Lists Tab and the Log out Tab.

                                                      The Lists Tab

This is where the Spam filter keeps the lists you give it when you click allow or block on quarantined messages.

You may also manually update this list. If you have a bother some email  that sneaks around the spam filter,

you may add that email (or company name) in the block section of the page and click add it will then appear in the

list under block.

If you have added a user or company by accident, you may come here to unblock them just select

them in the list and choose delete.

The allow section works the same way. You would only really allow people that were getting trapped in quarantine

that shouldn’t be.

The final tab Log Out exits you from the quarantine.
